The Somme Association

Following the refurbishment of the Ulster Memorial Tower and construction of the Visitor Centre on the Somme battlefield in the early 1990s The Somme Association was founded to manage both of these sites. The Somme Association carries out research into the part played by Ireland in the First World War, and helps to perpetuate the memory of all Irish soldiers and those who served in Irish regiments during the Great War.

The Somme Association is based at a museum called The Somme Heritage Centre in Newtonards, Northern Ireland.

Friends of the Somme

The Friends of the Somme supports the work being carried out by The Somme Association. Members across the world contribute to research, finance and promotion of the Association. Members receive regular publications.

For information about the Friends or information, research into casualties of the 10th and 16th Irish Divisions and the 36th Ulster Division and advice about visiting the related battlefield sites, cemeteries and memorials to the Irish men and women who served in the First World War contact The Somme Association.
