La Boisselle Study Group
Since January 2011 the La Boisselle Study Group has been working at the site known by the British Army in the First World War as “The Glory Hole”. The project is managed by an international team of volunteers and experts in military history, military mining technology and military archaeology. The aim of the project is to excavate and study this small sector of the Somme battlefield, which has been more or less untouched since the end of the First World War in November 1918.
Public Access
The Glory Hole sector at La Boisselle is on private property. The excavations are carried out in co-operation with the landowner and members of the public may not access the site without permission.
Open Days & Public Access
The La Boisselle Study Group aims to enable the public to be able to visit the site whenever research is in progress at the site by the experts and other volunteers. The website for the La Boisselle Study Group gives dates when members of the group will be working there, and anyone wishing to visit the site should look there to find out when access will be possible. Guided tours may be available during these Open Days and access times and the researchers will be pleased to speak with visitors.

Location of La Boisselle Glory Hole Site
The Glory Hole battle site is situated on the south side of the village of La Boisselle. Leaving the D929 main Albert-Bapaume road you turn onto the D20 for La Boissselle village in the direction of Contalmaison.

Parking
Vehicles will have to park with care at the side of the road near the site.
